National Wildlife Refuge Week 2022
You're invited to join us for a number of fun events as we celebrate National Wildlife Refuge Week, which is observed the second full week of October each year.
This annual event celebrates the great network of lands and waters that conserves and protects Americans’ precious wildlife heritage. The Island of Kauaʻi is home to three Refuges and we, as a dedicated Friends Group, are honored to help support their mission.
Please mark your calendars and make plans to join us! #nationalwildliferefugeweek
Walk for the Wild 2022
Celebrate National Wildlife Refuge Week, October 8-15th, by joining us for Walk for the Wild!
Because our supporters come from far and wide to visit our three Kauaʻi Refuges and support our work, our Walk for the Wild event will be VIRTUAL. That means, we're asking you to join our team, find ways to experience nature wherever you call home, and support our work.
Your contribution will support the protection of iconic species and the places that provide some of the best wildlife viewing opportunities on Earth…and on our beautiful island.
What is Walk for the Wild? Walk for the Wild is a national effort to get as many people moving on behalf of the Refuge System. The goal is to raise funding and leverage donations to build the capacity of Friends groups and nonprofit partners of National Wildlife Refuges.
Please sign up to walk today and share this invitation with friends, family members and other wildlife enthusiasts. A portion of your donation will be matched by national supporters of Walk for the Wild and the Public Lands Alliance.

Lighthouse Day
Each year, on the first Saturday of May, we celebrate the birthday of the Daniel K. Inouye Kīlauea Point Lighthouse, which was commissioned as the Kīlauea Point Light Station on May 1, 1913.
This year’s event will feature activities scheduled throughout the day focusing on navigation and Hawaiian culture, and may include haku lei making, coconut weaving and a feather display, a hei (Hawaiian cat’s cradle) station, live music, and button-making and chalk art stations for keiki.
The Refuge will be open until 7:30pm, with the last reservation at 6:00pm and the Lighthouse will be lit at 7:00pm.
To join us at the Refuge, please make your reservation now so that you don’t miss out on the fun! Community members can also enjoy views of the Lighthouse, once it has been lit, from beaches along the North Shore.
