Planned Giving

For many, there may come a time when gifts of cash, stock and other assets may not be possible. However, careful estate planning helps you and your loved ones prepare for the future, continue to show your support and appreciation for the Friends of Kauaʻi Wildlife Refuges and its mission, and further your personal, financial, estate-planning, and philanthropic goals.

With smart planning, you may actually increase the size of your estate and/or reduce the tax burden on your heirs. Just as important, you will know that you have made a meaningful contribution to support our work to support the conservation, preservation, and education programs of the Kauaʻi National Wildlife Refuge Complex.

There are a number of giving options available. However, the most common type of planned gift is a simple designation made in your will. We invite you to review the information included within this Planned Giving Overview, with information provided by our friends at the Hawaiʻi Community Foundation, and we recommend that you speak with your personal financial advisor to discuss the options that best meet your needs.

If you wish to share with us that you have made a planned gift, we welcome the news! Please contact us at info@kilaueapoint.org or 808-828-0384. On behalf of the precious endangered wildlife we protect and the sacred spaces they depend upon…mahalo nui loa!

Simple Estate Planning

General Gifts in a Will

General gifts in a will are the most valuable, as they allow Friends of Kauaʻi Wildlife Refuges to apply your gift wherever the need is the greatest. Here is an example of a simple bequest declaration:

“I give to Kīlauea Point Natural History Association DBA Friends of Kauaʻi Wildlife Refuges, a Hawaiian nonprofit corporation located in Kīlauea, HI, or its successor organization, the sum of $ _________ (or % of my estate), (or other personal property herein described) to be used for its general support and charitable purposes without restriction.”

Life Insurance Beneficiary

Naming our charity as a life insurance beneficiary is simple. You simply write in the name of our organization on your beneficiary designation form. Life insurance policies allow you to pick multiple beneficiaries and even specify what percentage of the death benefit should go to each beneficiary.

For all legal purposes, please refer to our organization as:
